The town of Haines felt the blow of the recession, and Christy found herself taking out loan after loan to try and keep the family business open. As she counted out the cash register every afternoon, the Dr. Phil show played on the television in the background. Something about his straight-shooting attitude hooked her. She started writing down his phrases and aphorisms on any scrap of paper that was nearby, realizing that these little sayings were just song hooks in disguise. For the first time in 20 years, she began writing songs again — country music based on Dr. Phil’s words. As she wrote these songs, her dream suddenly came into focus: to become Dr. Phil’s personal songwriter.

Heading back to Nashville with a handful of songs and a reignited passion, she produced the “Dr. Phil Project” – a 9 song album with songs like “You Either Get it or You Don’t,” “Rise Above Your Raisin’,” and “How’s That Workin’ For Ya.” The creation of the album took Christy on a ride from Alaska to Tennessee to Los Angeles.

And back to Haines.
